Abstract
This thesis is of 2 objectives, the study of the practice of vipassanā to cure the disease, to study Vipassanā Bhavanā in Buddhist Theravāda scripture and to study the practice vipassanā and to cure the disease by studying the data from the Tipitaka, Atthakatha, Tika, and different and connected documents, which are composed, explained, checked by expert teachers.
From the study, it is found that the practice of vipassanā has two kinds are Samatayānikā is to practice by to being based on Samadhi in 40 Meditations until getting the meditation and raising the mind from meditation in Three Characteristics, Vipassanāyānikā is the person who practice vipassanā only with the help of 5 Aggregates, 12 Doors, 18 Elements, 22 Organs, 12 Origination Dependents, 4 Noble Truths. In short, to classified in the Form and the Norm. To practice vipassanā is the practice to know the Form and the Norm of Three Characteristics.
The disease means the abnormal state of the body or the mind, which cause the sickness to arise. In Buddhism, disease come from Kamma, Mind, Temperature, Food. Some diseases which come from Kamma can be slowly affected by making the merit by almsgiving precept observing, and vipassanā practice. Lord Buddha said that the disease is of two kinds. The bodily disease can be cured by curing according to state of disease. The mental disease means the disease that cause the mind to be of mental heat which can cured by alms, precepts, and meditation.
From the study of Vipassanā Bhavanā in the form of Samathayānika up to the arising of the Jhāna organization is Vitakka, Vicāra, Pīti, Sukha, Ekakkhatā. When Jhāna has arisen with the power of the concentration can stop the pain arising bodily as in the case of venerable Sārīputta and the noble monks in the moments of their practising the Jhāna. All the dangers could not hurt them. |
